Mountainbiking Sallandse Heuvelrug

They are so far removed from what you expect in the Netherlands: the MTB routes on the Sallandse Heuvelrug. Sizeable height differences, flowy single tracks and tough banked curves. Climbing and mounting, in other words. But also: clambering, turning and descending. An excellent place to explore your limits. Or push your limits, as the case may be.

Sallandse Heuvelrug Mountain Biking Trail
These two signposted mountain biking trails run through the Sallandse Heuvelrug. The blue trail goes through the Holterberg, runs over the Sprengenberg and the Nijverdalseberg and ends in Holten. Halfway through, it is possible to cut across to the Bergweg. From there, you can ride from Haarle to Rijssen and back to Holten. This is a 25 km trail. You can also return to Holten from the road to Raalte/Nijverdal. This is a 30 km distance. Click here for the trail map of the Holten blue trail.

The purple trail traverses the north of the Sallandse Heuvelrug and crosses the Hellendoornseberg. This route can be taken as an extension to the blue trail. The purple trail is 18 km long. It can be quite a tough trail, especially after it has been raining! The differences in height along the purple trail add up to about 300 meters. Along the blue trail only (30 km) they add up to about 185 meters. Click here for the trail map of the Hellendoorn purple trail.
